Our online offense Playbook provides members with videos and notes to help our players develop a high-level understanding of the program-wide offensive philosophies and schemes.
An offense with 4 players on the perimeter and a post player inside with spacing, designed to allow for driving lanes and open jump shots.
The CORE strategy for this offense is proper spacing. Maintaining the triple gap (3 passing lanes/gaps between perimeter players, is key to spreading out the defense which creates the driving lanes and opportunity for open jump shots, when the defenders help on the drives.
Hard cuts: are important not just to create passing opportunities for the cutters, but cutting hard causes the defense to react creating driving lanes for the ball handlers.
Attack off-cuts: it is important for the ball handlers to drive hard off the cutter's outside hip.
Drag Action: dragging/filling (moving around the perimeter behind the ball), is important to maintain the triple gap spacing and to get players open to shoot or reset the offense.
Racking Up: racking/lifting up from the corners when the ball handler jump-stops (can't score a layup). This is important to help get the corner player open for the shot and to get the player moving/stepping into the shot.
In order for the middle to be open for driving lanes, it is important that the (4) starts in low-post outside of the lane lines OPPOSITE the ball. When/if the drive is stopped the Post MUST circle up to the weak-side block/open spot to be available for a lob pass.
Post Slides: if the ball handler attacks the block/spot the post player is occupying, it is important for the (4) to "slide" or move the opposite block or high-post, this will keep the defender guarding the post from trapping the ball handler and also make the post available for a pass from the ball handler.
